About us

Our Mission

The Workshop is a female owned community makerspace that provides access to tools and education for New Orleanians of all skill sets. We seek to eliminate barriers to entry in the fields of design and fabrication through access, education, and community building.

Come learn, design, build, and create with us. All skill levels are welcome. Keep an open mind, learn something new, and have fun doing it. Bring an original idea to life or take inspiration. Start a new hobby, continue a passion project, or kickstart your entrepreneurial spirit.

Our History and Future

The Workshop is a co-operative community wood shop seeking to create a safe, affordable, and collaborative workspace to cultivate a collective of makers. The shop originated on Marias St in the Bywater neighborhood and had a happy and productive beginning. In 2021 because of renovations, the shop had to move locations. The Workshop is now located in the Broadmoor neighborhood at 3142 Calhoun St.  The building is shared with The 1881 institute, a nonprofit workforce development initiative preparing unrepresented populations in the fields of engineering and technology.

Currently The Community Workshop NOLA is working with other non-profits and organizations around New Orleans to enrich and inspire people through making.
